To view longer texts the Preview window can be dragged from the main window and the size adjusted to your liking.
Display of "Raw" text
You can view the contents of text files created by applications which are not installed on your computer: activate the option "Display raw text" in the "Preview" area in the list of preferences and drag the file into the list underneath the checkbox. Then you will see in the Preview area the file contents diplayed as text. Most of the time you will notice a few cryptic characters but in this way you're able to view contents of for example Microsoft Word documents without having Microsoft Word® installed on your computer.
"Styled" text
For classic "TEXT" files you can choose with "Display" in the list of preferences if the text shown in the Preview area should be "styled" (meaning: with text displays like "bold" or 24 pt size etc.) or if it should only show the text.
If you have deactivated the "style" function the style attributes are not changed while changing the text.
