SyncPhotos Help

SyncPhotos Features

SyncPhotos copies new original photos and videos from other computers.

It looks through the original photos and videos in your iPhoto Library, looks through the original photos and videos in the other computer's iPhoto Library, and shows you photos and videos from the other computer's Library that you don't already have:

Select some or all of the photos and click "Import", and SyncPhotos will retrieve them and import them into your iPhoto Library.

Automatic Photo Retrieval

If you want to make sure your iPhoto Library always has all the original photos and videos that another computer has, click "Automatically import" and "Apply". SyncPhotos's "agent" will run in the background and whenever the other computer has new original photos and videos you'll get them automatically*.

Bi-Directional

You can set up automatic photo retrieval on the other computer as well. In that case both computers will share all original photos and videos. This is great for folks who share cameras and photos and want to make sure both people got all the photos and videos before clearing the camera's memory card.

It works with more than 2 computers as well. Sync as many as you want!

Events, Keywords, Albums, Places, Faces and Other Metadata

SyncPhotos does not sync anything other than original photos and videos.

There are several reasons for this. In some cases (e.g. Slideshows, Books, Cards, Calendars) there's no facility provided by Apple to do it. In other cases Apple provides a facility for it via AppleScript, but doing so would inevitably lead to merge conflicts. For instance, if an album is edited in one iPhoto Library and deleted in the other at the same time, it's a conflict.

Because of this, it only ever adds things to your iPhoto Library. It never modifies items (or overwrites your modifications) or deletes items.

Safe and Non-Destructive

Since SyncPhotos only copies new items from other computers and adds them to your iPhoto Library, it's very safe. SyncPhotos does not modify your iPhoto Library in any other way.

* Photos and videos are only copied when both computers are on the same network (using the same Wifi network, or connected via cable to the same router).
