MKV Extractor Qt (formerly MKV Extractor GUI) is an open source and freely distributed application that allows anyone to effortlessly extract or rip files contained in a Matroska (MKV) file.
Matroska files can be rebuild
Key features include the ability to extract audio, subtitle and video tracks contained in a Matroska file that uses the MKV format, convert audio files from DTS to AC3 using FFmpeg and AVConv, as well as to rebuilt a Matroska (MKV) file after removing tracks or converting DTS audio.
In addition, MKV Extractor Qt can be used to amplify the audio files contained in a Matroska file, as well as to switch it to stereo mode or make sure it is readable by Freebox v5 devices. It is also possible to rename tracks.
It is extendable through third-party tools
The application is extendable through third-party tools, allowing the user to check the compliance of a Matroska file, optimize MKV (Matroska) files, convert VobSub files into SRT, as well as to viewing attachments in Matroska files.
It’s powered by MKVToolnix
MKV Extractor Qt is powered by the well known MKVToolnix application, which is a set of command-line and graphical utilities for the manipulation of Matroska (MKV) files.
How to use MKV Extractor Qt
To use the program, open a MKV file, select the target directory for the tracks, use options like mkvalidator or mkclean (optionally), check the tracks you want to extract, and choose if you want to convert or re-encapsulate MKV files. Supported languages include English, French and Czech. Both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures are supported at this time.
Recommended dependencies
In order for the program to work as designed, we recommend to install the FFmpeg or AVconv tools for the conversion of DTS audio streams to AC3, mkclean for cleaning the MKV file, mkvalidator for checking the validity of MKV files, as well as tesseract-ocr for the conversion of subtitles in the SUB format to SRT.
